Sedgie face title challengers Guisbrough at home on Saturday 2:15pm kick off.
Sedgie welcome formidable opposition to the Wok on Saturday with high flying Guisbrough in town for a DN2 fixture. Certainly rare to be able to welcome Guis who were playing at level 6 just a few seasons ago.
The Opposition
Guisbrough have recovered well from 2 early season losses to Ponteland and Ryton to go undefeated since, only Hartlepool have managed to take any points from them with a draw. Guisbrough dished out our heaviest defeat in some time when they made short work of us at Belmangate as we lost 99-0. They have posted 50 plus points in 9 of their games and topped 100 last week in their dismantling of Darlington. They are certainly in form!! Sedgie will need to be at their best to get anything out of the game Saturday and Guis will probably need to be below par... but on the Wok as we have seen countless times over the years anything is possible!
Team News
The manner of last weeks desperately disappointing loss to Ashington shows the needs for Sedgie to put on a performance and play well on Saturday and despite a lengthy injury and unavailable list (It is calcutta cup day!) We are able to name a strong squad with a debut for a new signing always a welcome.
Gareth Pratt (Knee) and Jack Sellers (Shoulder) joins a lengthy injury list but hopefully better news on the horizon with Lawrence Oliver almost recovered from a rib problem and the return of David Galloway after missing most of the season, down to play for Saxons this week if we could have managed to raise enough to play a friendly.
Keith Corrgan comes in to prop after some strong displays for the Saxons and James Watson returns to captain the side from hooker. Dan Lawson has done well to shake off a nasty knee injury to complete our front row. Paul Wilkinson and Anth Smyth renew their 2nd row partnership and Pedro Gray continues at blindside with Paul McCormack unavailable. Dom Ryan is at openside while Will Johnson is a very welcome return at number 8.
Nathan Waterhouse is at scrum half and Chris Dawson returns to the 10 jersey. Andy Shepherd and Adam Grieve are in the midfield with Ryan 'Trump'Towler, Andy Fife and Owen Robinson in the back three.
On the bench Michael Bishop comes in with Chris Lowe and the debutant is Sean Swallow a utility back signed from Hartlepool Rovers.
Another great Sedgie day in the offing, All support welcomed and very much needed.
Afterwards, the small matter of Scotland v England for the calcutta cup... as Doug Wardle would say.... 'what could possibly go wrong!'
