First XV V Gosforth
Sedgies improving form meets another tought DN2 test in the guise of Gosforth another side who have shown marked improvements over the last couple of weeks. The club is gonna be bouncing Saturday as for the first time in our history we put out 3 sides and with the Race Night on after it could be a really messy night. Its a great achievement for a club of our size to field 3 sides partially benefitting from the successful Rugby World Cup but also thanks t the hard work of our members who have done a great job promoting the club and getting lads interested in what we do. It also falls hot on the heels of a successful run out for our vets last week - great times to be at Sedgie and always room for more!
The Opposition
Whilst Gosforth are currently in bottom place in the league, this is somewhat a surprise as they are normally up at the top of the league. They made a change to their coaching set up and im sure it wont take long before they gel and start moving up... after Saturday of course!
Last Season spoils were shared, with Sedgie edging a win at Broadway and Gosforth edging us out at home. A win on Saturday would certainly go a long way to improving either sides forunes... Hopefully it will be us who takes it.
Team News
Despite naming 3 sides, their are still a few out of comission, Mark Baldwin unavailable following last weeks red card, Richy Wood is also unavailable and Kyle Sutcliffe has a back injury, Owen Robinson is away and Adam Grieves is on his last week of wedding induced absence and should be available next week for the derby with Bishop Auckland.... if selected!
Ollie Barker keeps the 1 shirt in a front row with vice captain James Watson and James Allison. Anth Smyth and PAUL WILKINSON (in capitals) again form the 2nd row parthership and last weeks back row is maintained with Pedro Gray, Dom Ryan and Will Johnson completing the pack.
Nathan Waterhouse is at scrum half with Chris Dawson back for his first start of the season at stand off. Skipper Phil Dawson is at 12 with Lawrence Oliver his now familiar centre sidekick. Out wide Danny Wolfe and Andy Shepherd are a little and large combo and Andy Fife makes a very welcome return at full back.
The finishers can all change things in the game if needed and can change the way we play which is great flexibility Dan Lawson is covering front 5 and Paul McCormack will be prowling the touch line like a tiger eager to get back on the pitch. Michael Shepherd is another welcome returnee to the squad and can cover mainly half backs but also across the back line.
What a weekend to be involved with Sedgie, 3 sides out, 3 great games and our Race Night Social.... Shenanigans aplenty!!
Cmon Sedgie!!!
