Sedgefield begin their pre-season fixtures with a trip to Houghton for a round robin tournament and name an 'A' squad with a view to getting some game time under the belts ahead of the cup and league fixtures coming up. Its a great opportunity for the coaches to have a good look at some of our new lads and also check the form of some of our more established players.

With Dave Addison (Wedding duties) & Paul McCormack (Holiday) both away, Hugh Carter and Doug Wardle will watch over proceedings in a new look squad captained by Dom Ryan.

The Squad: We have been bolstered by no fewer than 17 new recruits this season and a number of them feature in the squad:
Hooker, Oliver Barker makes an early return to his old stomping ground at Houghton packs down with another new signing in Greg Holder who joins from Winlaton, in the backs its all change with winger Jack Sellers and centres Ben Norris (Ex Darlington) and rugby league convert Jamie Wilson (from Durham Demons RL) and Will Todd all due to make a first appearance in Sedgie colours. Hopefully the more experienced campaigners can help them make it a good start.

The opposition:

Houghton RFC: the hosts were unlucky to be relegated last season into DN3, They are a good side with a bit of pace so will certainly be a good test.

Seaham RFC: They have recruited extremely well over the summer and will be viewed by many as favourites to win DN3 this year, another tough fixture against a very good side.

Washington RFC: Our old friends from Washington are regrouping well and will be looking to rejoin the leagues soon, exciting times for them as they look forward to a new facility and an influx of new players hoping to bring back the glory days.
